The Hot Hatch. Those three words can make the heart race or bring back fond memories of years past. Names like GTI, Focus RS, Mazda3Speed, and for a few years, STI, just to name a few. Recently, another company, not generally known for performance vehicles, is vying for a piece of the hot hatch pie. The Toyota GR Corolla. Say what you will, but it brings quite a few go-fast goodies from its Gazoo Racing sibling, the Yaris GR. 300 turbocharged horsepower, AWD and model exclusive 6-speed manual. The engine in this new GR Corolla is a beefier version of the power plant from the Yaris. It boasts 100 horsepower from each of its 3 cylinders. Plus it has the aggressive looks to back up the power. Toyota has shown up to the fight with a guns-a-blazin’ contender, aiming for other hot hatches like the Golf R, Civic Type R and Veloster N. We will find out soon enough if the GR Corolla has what it takes to go head to head against the crowd favourites!
